Just because.
‘95 S-10 LS 4.3 auto. Everything works except for the power mirrors. The A/C is currently charged with fresh R134a, so it works as well (for now).
Comes in handy all the time. Can’t imagine life without a truck now that I’ve got one.

The Rams are the best looking trucks on sale today, in my opinion. Someday, I'd like to have a nice truck. But, I doubt I will since I have a nice car instead. I'll settle for beater truck, I suppose.

Just about to take it in for it’s first service. 2016 Tacoma, 3.5, 4x4, TRD Sport, manual, double cab.
This is my only pic on this computer.

I learned to drive in an F-150 almost just like that. It was my papaw’s. His wasn’t the flare side model, though.

Nice! I like Tacomas. My papaw has a 2003 Tacoma, super base and typical little old man truck. It's stupid reliable, though.

If only they’d made a manual. Sometimes I wonder if I should’ve got a manual 3.7 I5 and turbo’d the snot out of instead, but then I flex my right hind hoof a little and go “nah”.

I really miss this truck. I bought it as a beater, and fell in love with it. It was a 5 speed, and you would just go bouncing down the road in it. The head gasket or oil pain gasket need replacing (I can’t remember which) and I literally could not find anyone who would take on the job. Wasn’t in to wrenching on it myself at the time so I donated it to Purple Heart :(

Wow, I have very few pictures of mine. A couple from when it came home from the dealership, and one when I swapped out the grill insert. Just passed 7300 miles on it yesterday, I’ve had it a little over a year.Of my 4 new vehicle purchases, three have been Toyotas...’02 Tundra, ‘12 Tundra, ‘15 Taco.

In retrospect one of my alternate plans would a 4-banger version and either a 6.6 duramax or LS7 swap backed up by a manual.

I’ve got it parked in the garage again, on account of a wheel cylinder failure, and this (shouldn’t take long to remedy):
Yeah, maybe I oughta get some mudflaps, too... Here’s an older pic of the truck:

That’s my favorite generation of Dakota. When I was thinking about buying one, the sales guy told me that one of their customers was taking it to the drag races every weekend and kicking everyone’s butt.
I didn’t believe him, but I always wondered what the 1/4 mile time was with the V8.

I like the hat. My Subaru wears one too.

Nothing spectacular. IIRC back when they were new, they were pulling in the mid 16s. 230hp, 300 torques. Sure it weighs a tick under two tons but even with the manny tranny there’s a good bit of parasitic loss.
I’m sure with the right gearing it could be a real screamer, but this is a work truck. It plods along and makes a great ruckus but isn’t particularly fast.
![]() 06/23/2016 at 12:01 |

Thanks. The front plate holder was already there so I got that plate on Amazon to at least have something there...even though that ad slogan was over by ‘95 when the truck was sold.

How about my truck-biased SUV? ...because last time I was in the truck market everyone and their mother wanted a half-ton truck with a crew cab, but the full-size SUV’s built on the same platform provide the same capability and presented a much better value proposition in the used market.

I knew they were a good bit faster than the truck I bought, but I was driving long distances, so I really needed the better fuel mileage.

2001 F250 XLT 4x4 with a 7.3 Powerstroke. 158k miles, body is a bit rotted but the interior is mint and it runs great. Just got 20mpg on a round trip to NJ where I towed an empty trailer there and a ‘64 Barracuda back. I love this truck.

‘99 F-150, 5.4 auto. Love this truck and never want to let it go. 183K on it and it’s starting to feel worn out. I have a front suspension rebuilt kit for it (have had it for close to a year actually) and need to find time, (and a press) amid countless other projects to get that finished. Slowly being eaten away by South Dakota road salt and I’m trying to do everything I can to slow it down so I can repair it once I have the place to work on it/tools to do it.
Blurry pic .
Hard at work
My second. 1950 Ford F3. My favorite pickup ever. Once again, plan to restore/hot rod this as soon as I have space to work on it.
Third. 1949 (?) Ford F2, sort of accidentally bought it when I shot a pretty low offer and they accepted. This is mostly a parts truck for a few panels I need for my F3. I’m going to turn the Flathead I6 into a glass top table, it will have a little motor in it so that it has a working valve train, and lights colored and timed specifically to simulate intake compression and exhaust.

‘95 F150 XLT 4x4 5.0,Off Road package so it’s got locking hubs and an LSD in back. It also has the lesser of two evils 4R70W trans. Bought it for $2200 a couple years ago, has 145k on it now. I built a sleeping platform and drawer for the back too, so it’s a good family camper.
It’s nowhere near perfect and I don’t exactly love the purple & white, but it does what I need and I’ve always loved this generation of Ferd. Gotta fix the AC before my trip to the Sierras next month though.

That’s a good looking truck. Great color. I drove a similar one when we moved. My wife’s cousin lent it to us since it was their “farm truck.” I went from driving a Mazda3 hatchback daily to driving that thing and it was scary to say the least. But, once I got used to it, I loved it.

It took me a little while to get used to the size, and I was only coming from a same-era F150. But I used to drive an F650 flatbed, so in the grand scheme of things this is small.

It’s balding, it’s base spec, I’m always fixing something on it, it’s not reliable, but damn if I don’t love it. At the rate I’m fixing things, it will be a new truck under the ratty skin soon enough.
